A HIV-positive housewife tells the story of how she became a regular client of the Rainbow Program

This is a true story of young woman who is infected with HIV and has accepted the Rainbow Program as a forum for discussion when she has problems, especially health or psychological problems. She is a widow whose husband died of HIV/AIDS three years ago. She and her three-year old son were infected by her husband. She said that:

“I had many problems hidden in my heart. I dared not tell my problems to anyone because I was so embarrassed. Keeping this secret from people made me so extremely distressed that sometimes I wanted to kill myself to escape from this suffering, without any consideration for my dear son. However, after communicating with the Rainbow Program, I felt relieved. My distress was reduced after expressing my long-hidden problems to the program. Now I express my feelings without any fear because: First: No one knows who I am. Second: The conversation is confidential. Third: I can discuss many problems concerning my personal health problems. It is convenient for me to receive good advice and encouragement from the Rainbow Program. I usually call the Rainbow Program when my son and I have health-related problems”.

Today, though she is HIV-infected, she feels calm and hopeful in her life and she also gets emotional support from her family. She takes good care of herself so that she is still in good health. She looks healthy and is able to maintain her beauty. Currently, she is receiving treatment with antiretroviral drugs (ARV) from an NGO. She always strictly follows the doctor’s advice and comes for a medical check-up on a regular basis as advised by her doctor. Her son is also HIV-infected but has not yet received treatment with antiretroviral drugs like her.

Our Program would like to wish her and her son good luck!!!
